Exchange Hosting ‘LightEdge Solutions

DES MOINES, Iowa; (July 18, 2006) – LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of business-to-business managed voice, data and IT services, today announced the completion of a network infrastructure build-out that will add Ames, Iowa City and Dubuque to the LightEdge voice network. Becoming part of this network will allow businesses in these areas to cost-effectively access the features and functionality of the LightEdge voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) platform.

To enable this expansion, LightEdge has added redundant pairs of Cisco media gateways to several facilities. In all instances the devices have been configured as pairs with one acting as the primary device and the other acting as the failover. The addition of these devices has nearly doubled LightEdge’s service capacity available for the Iowa City market, and allows for a much greater reach and better reliability in Ames and Dubuque.

“Our goal with any infrastructure change is ultimately to improve our network so that LightEdge can better serve small and medium-sized businesses,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and chief executive officer of LightEdge. “This is a big win because customers will receive better coverage, reduced costs and enhanced reliability.”

The additional coverage applies to both the converged access and hosted PBX VoIP services provided by LightEdge. In a converged access VoIP implementation, the telephone lines are replaced by a private, high-speed connection to LightEdge. The phone handsets and PBX are left intact. Hosted PBX also involves replacing the phone lines with connectivity from LightEdge, but the company’s PBX and phone handsets are no longer utilized. All of the phone functionality, including voice mail, “Find me/Follow me” call routing, remote office and push-to-talk, is provided through the LightEdge VoIP platform via IP-enabled phones.

While VoIP has become popular for residential use, it has only very recently become of a high enough quality for businesses. The Dell’Oro Group anticipates that IP PBX sales will reach $2 billion by 2010, nearly a three-fold increase from 2005.

DES MOINES, Iowa; MOLINE, Ill (July 11, 2006) – LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of business-to-business managed voice, data and IT services, today announced a strategic expansion enabling LightEdge to provide high quality voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) telephone and managed services to businesses in the Greater Peoria Market. This expansion comes as the result of a recent business combination with Internet Express, Inc. From this partnership, Lightedge Solutions has gained a redundant data network that will provide the backbone to deliver carrier-grade voice and data services in the Quad-Cities and Peoria.

“In reviewing trends, it’s obvious that VoIP is ready to explode. We have strategically built our network to allow us to scale for a high volume of business,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and chief executive officer of LightEdge Solutions. “With the Quad-Cities partnership, and now the expansion to Peoria, we are allowing new markets to tap into the VoIP platform and network infrastructure that is helping to support nearly 4,000 companies in the Midwest and Southwest.”

LightEdge offers both converged access VoIP and a fully hosted VoIP solution through a quality managed connection to LightEdge. Converged access enables a business to replace its phone lines with a private high-speed connection to LightEdge while existing handsets and the PBX device remain intact. In a hosted model, all of the traditional PBX features (i.e., voicemail and call-forwarding) are handled within the LightEdge VoIP platform to provide an additional level of disaster recovery. Calls are made over private high-speed connections via special IP phones. Users are able to control their personal phone features using a Web-based administration tool. Hybrid phone systems, consisting of both converged access and hosted VoIP, can be established based on the specific needs of the client.

As one of the few providers in Peoria to conduct calls through a completely private and managed infrastructure, LightEdge is able to offer some of the highest service level agreements and provide business-grade service free from latency or signal degradation. The VoIP infrastructure is upgraded regularly to enable new functionality as it is released for the platform.

As a comprehensive managed services provider, LightEdge will offer Peoria businesses a wide array of services that have not been available through a single company. In addition to VoIP, businesses will have access to cost-effective: high-speed business Internet services, IP wide area networking (WAN), managed backup, hosted Microsoft Exchange, dedicated servers and business continuity and disaster recovery services.

DES MOINES, Iowa —June 27, 2006—LightEdge Solutions, Inc., a leader in converged data networking, voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) and managed IT business services, today announced the commercial availability of its managed backup solution, providing businesses a structured risk management platform and maximum availability for mission-critical data.

LightEdge’s managed backup solution provides businesses with a cost-effective way to back up mission-critical data without the capital expense and administration required to build out an in-house network and storage server environment. Instead, any business can have its data backed up and stored remotely in LightEdge’s secure, redundant, carrier-class data center. Offsite storage provides an added level of security in case of a natural disaster or business interruption resulting in damage to an organization’s physical plant or property.

“We rely on LightEdge Solutions to provide managed backup services for the critical data stored in a health insurance database used by one of our clients,” said Lonnie Janecek, managing director of MarketSphere Consulting. “Due to the sensitive nature of the data, the security and availability requirements are extremely high. LightEdge provided what we needed, and more, with a backup service that meets the compliance requirements for HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). In addition to swift recovery time, the on-demand scalability ultimately allows us the flexibility to add additional clients.”

“We’re pleased that MarketSphere is able take advantage of our managed backup solution to create an immediate impact for their healthcare client,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and chief executive officer of LightEdge Solutions. “One of the reasons we built our network to industry-leading standards for security, reliability and availability is to make it easy for small and midsize businesses to quickly and cost-effectively implement the latest next generation technology solutions. Our managed backup solution is a proven model that can be deployed within a fraction of the time and cost of typical in-house solutions.”

Why Outsource Backup?
Small and medium businesses considering backup solutions face a tradeoff between cost and quality: the cost to secure and administer their own network and storage servers versus the quality, reliability and performance of the storage solution they choose to put in place. Traditionally, these businesses have had to deal with the following challenges:

  • Tape backup systems that can be problematic in terms of high failure rates resulting in loss of critical data, the complexity of tape splits and partial backups, the time-intensive task of finding and restoring data and limited nightly backup and restore options. Moreover, these systems often require costly administrative resources to maintain;
  • Difficulty in accurately estimating current and future data storage needs in order to deploy in-house systems necessary to accommodate business growth;
  • Finding the right backup and storage solution to meet the changing demands of regulatory compliance placed on businesses.

In response to these customer challenges, LightEdge has developed an offsite backup solution that is available at several service levels and is flexible enough to meet the varying demands of virtually any size business.

LightEdge Managed Backup Options
With LightEdge managed backup, businesses choose among three service levels that are all remotely hosted in LightEdge’s secure, redundant data center.

  • Hosted Disk-based Storage: A data backup solution stored directly to disk format which provides faster, more efficient and flexible recovery options than tape.
  • Mirrored Storage: For a higher level of protection, data can be “mirrored” to a secondary LightEdge data center, ensuring data integrity in the event of a catastrophic failure or downtime in the primary facility.
  • Archived Storage: A tape backup storage solution that provides an economical way to meet regulatory compliance and other long-term data requirements. Tapes are catalogued, archived in LightEdge’s secure data center and accessible when needed.

Benefits of LightEdge Managed Backup

FEATURE
BENEFIT
Block-level Incremental Backup
Block level incremental backup is the most efficient way to transport, store and administer data for an incremental backup. After the initial backup process, only changed blocks are transmitted to the LightEdge storage servers. Each incremental backup provides a snapshot of the system at that particular point in time. Recovery can be made from the last backup or any previous backup snapshots, either as a complete point-in-time recover or selective file-level recovery.
Transparent Backup
Managed Backup integrates seamlessly with your in-house network, or servers that are co-located or dedicated through LightEdge. Your production servers continue to operate normally, while Server Agents work in the background to transparently transmit data to LightEdge storage servers over a QoS managed connection at regular intervals during regular business hours. The frequency of backup allows for a more time sensitive recovery point and better overall data recovery.
Managed Recovery
When a recovery situation arises, the process is initiated and coordinated by your staff, but ultimately managed and implemented through LightEdge’s professional staff to ensure the safety of your data.
File, Volume, and Directory Level Restore
A unique snapshot technology allows many levels of restore. Professional administrators can quickly and easily restore files, volumes or directories based on an incremental snapshot. Together, the granular restoration functionality and professional restoration management ensures faster recovery time and better business continuity.

SHAWNEE, Kan.; DES MOINES, Iowa (June 14, 2006) – Software developer, Perceptive Software Inc., and technology outsourcing firm, LightEdge Solutions, recently announced a partnership that will enable Perceptive Software to offer its document management, imaging and workflow software on an additional web-enabled application.

Perceptive Software is on the leading edge of a trend called Software as a Service (SaaS). As a hosted model, a SaaS-enabled application is a true “zero-footprint” solution which provides the benefit of the software without the infrastructure and maintenance normally associated with additional technology. The processing power, storage and maintenance necessary to run the application is provided through partner, LightEdge Solutions.

Scott Coons, president and CEO of Perceptive Software, said, “We’re pleased to expand our customers’ options and offer them the ability to acquire our solutions through an additional deployment strategy. SaaS-enabled software is effective, easy to implement and very cost-effective.”

The CEOs of both LightEdge Solutions and Perceptive Software were both recently honored by being named finalists in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program for the Central Midwest region. “LightEdge chooses partners very carefully. It’s gratifying to see that all of the positive attributes that we saw in Perceptive Software were also recognized by Ernst & Young,” Jim Masterson, CEO of LightEdge Solutions, said, “Each company has incredible vision, drive and talent; together our synergy and potential is limitless.”

About SaaS
Software as a Solution, most notably used by Salesforce.com, is emerging as a trend which Gartner Group has declared as one of the top five technologies of 2005. The reason SaaS is becoming popular is due to sheer economics. Many companies need solutions but cannot afford the upfront cost to purchase, implement and maintain the infrastructure necessary to host them. SaaS eases implementation, provides scalability and removes hurdles associated with upfront costs.

About Perceptive Software
Perceptive Software, Inc., develops integrated document management, imaging and workflow software solutions that simplify business processes by delivering secure, digitized versions of paper and other electronic documents while leveraging existing applications. DES MOINES, Iowa—March 08, 2006—LightEdge Solutions, Inc., a leader in converged data networking, voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) and managed IT business services, today announced the successful completion of a 875-seat VoIP deployment integrating the phone systems of 13 Westside Community Schools and four administrative offices and facilities.

Westside Community School District realized that their traditional PBX phone system was reaching the end of its usefulness. The phone system was approaching capacity and was unable to support voicemail services that could improve communication between the teachers, administrators and staff located at different locations throughout the district. Westside required an affordable, scalable and efficient solution that would provide high quality of service and 24/7 support for its users.

Upgrading Westside’s existing PBX phone system would have required a significant capital investment in additional PBX equipment, as well as the associated ongoing maintenance and support to manage this equipment, at multiple locations throughout the district. Instead, Westside chose LightEdge to provide a district-wide, feature-rich VoIP phone system connecting all of its teachers, administrators and staff—all at an affordable monthly rate.

“We were contemplating a decision to upgrade our traditional PBX systems across the district to support the communications needs of our teachers, administrators and staff. Due to the high costs, complexity and technical resources required, we wanted to be sure to explore all of our options,” said Dr. Al Inzerello, assistant superintendent for finance and business at Westside Community Schools. “LightEdge gave us an affordable alternative. Their VoIP technology allowed us to improve our inter-school communications while mitigating technology risk, providing scalability for future growth and ensuring a high level of customer service and support to our users.”

“As one of the most progressive and respected school districts in the nation, Westside prides itself on embracing technology to empower its teachers, staff and students,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and chief executive officer of LightEdge Solutions. “Educational institutions often have limited funds and technical expertise to implement new technologies. Westside is taking a leadership role in adopting the latest in VoIP technology and putting it into practical use for a long term future.”

LightEdge’s hosted VoIP solution delivers the following benefits to Westside Community Schools:

  • INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY. Improved worker and work group productivity through advanced call routing and handling features such as direct inward dial (DID), call forwarding and routing, unified messaging, integrated voice mail and conferencing, and one-click dialing. In addition, network administrators gain efficiencies through having a common platform for managing employees that alleviates the need to manage multiple complex components. For example, one of the greatest benefits of VoIP technology is that it enables administrators to perform move, additions and changes (MAC activity) in seconds.
  • GEOGRAPHIC INDEPENDENCE. With LightEdge VoIP, organizations maintain industry-standard levels of communications services across geographically dispersed locations. Users and administrators get full access to all system features through an Internet or phone connection. For example, users and schools can be managed from any location, call transfer and conferencing can be performed from any location to another, extension dialing is possible from any geographic location, staff can work anywhere and appear to be in the office/school and employees can be monitored regardless of their physical location.
  • IMPROVED NETWORK EFFICIENCY AND ECONOMICS. A more efficient, integrated VoIP infrastructure from LightEdge that supports both voice and data services on a single platform reduces the amount of network equipment required, as well as the support necessary to operate, administer and maintain such equipment. In today’s competitive environment, less equipment translates to reduced capital expenditures, which in turn can positively affect a business’ bottom line.
  • DISASTER RECOVERY. Recent disastrous events have underscored the need for network redundancy and disaster recovery solutions that ensure business continuity. VoIP networks can be designed to reduce single points of failure and to enhance emergency response, enabling quick and effective communications during critical situations. LightEdge VoIP solutions provide organizations with disaster recovery services such as communication diversity, mobility, server redundancy and failover, alternate gateways, and advanced call handling and rerouting. In addition, all of LightEdge’s core network elements are redundant across multiple cities, and call routing is handled via multiple redundant paths.
  • REDUCED TECHNOLOGY RISK. Organizations choosing to invest in LightEdge VoIP services can rest assured that their investment will bring continuing returns. With VoIP technology, organizations can effectively avoid technology obsolescence because LightEdge provides free technology upgrades. Regular technology upgrades enable businesses to provision new services as quickly as they are developed, or as they become necessary, to respond to changing business requirements. With LightEdge VoIP, the integrated nature of the VoIP platform avoids technology obsolescence in various areas, including switching technology, e-mail and conferencing servers, integrated voice response (IVR) servers, etc

“In addition to the business benefits, some of the most useful features used by our teachers and staff are direct extension dialing, the ability to receive voice messages on both their phones and through email as audio .WAV file attachments, remote access to the phone system, call forwarding and simultaneous ring, and a Web-based portal for managing call routing and handling,” said Inzerello.

The VoIP system was deployed to all 17 locations, including 13 schools, an alumni building, a service center, an administrative building and a community education center. The system has been installed and operating since August 2005.
