Exchange Hosting for August, 2009

Say you’re a department head in an IT company, and your CEO/ CFO has asked you to find new streams of income. You know that cloud computing is the wave of the future, and providing hosted Microsoft services is definitely a way to generate revenue. The question then becomes not whether to provide this service to you clients, but whether you should host the services yourself, or resell those services from a trusted provider like Apps4Rent.com.

If you have ever hosted websites, web applications, intranets, or other solutions for your clients, then you are aware of some of the things you have to have to make this happen. There are many technical requirements to hosting this type of service.

Network

One word to sum it up, Bandwidth. if you plan on being very successful with your hosted Microsoft services, you have to be able to accommodate many users, which requires lots of bandwidth to make sure things move smoothly. Be prepared to make a sizable investment to beef up your backbone.

Hardware

Again, if you’re going to be successful, your going to need the hardware to push the software, this includes new servers to handle the workload, battery backups for said servers, maybe other, off site servers to provide redundancy.

Data Protection

Clients who purchase your hosted services will want to know that their data is safe and secure. This means that you have to have IT staff and software to monitor the servers and services, to backup data and make sure that your clients assets are protected.

Administration

You will also need staff that is trained to administer these services and the server software running them. You have the option of trying to learn what is needed on the fly, or try to find someone available who is already skilled with hosted Microsoft services.

The biggest positives to hosting your own Microsoft services are the fact that you don’t share profit, and you have complete control over how the business is run. this is the way to go if you have the resources and require complete control.

Offering Microsoft SaaS as a Reseller

Reselling hosted Microsoft services is much less complicated overall, and is potentially much more rewarding. With a company like Apps4Rent.com, you need none of the above requirements. You just sell the service, and the rest is taken care of.

As you can see from the comparison, there is much less time, work and training needed to resell these services. In as little as a day, you can be ready to provide Hosted Exchange or SharePoint hosting service, without the backend hassle.

Company’s Archiving Project Takes Flight with Deployment Across 11 Facilities
TORRANCE, Calif., August 27, 2009 — LiveOffice, the leading provider of software-as-a-service (SaaS), email archiving, email hosting and email continuity solutions, today announced that Windsor Foods has deployed LiveOffice Personal Archive and LiveOffice Discovery Archive to provide unlimited storage capacity, improved server performance and e-discovery capabilities to its more than 600 users spread throughout 11 U.S. facilities.

A national provider of frozen food products, Windsor Foods required a scalable email archiving and e-discovery solution to address its rapidly growing data stores, which were pushing the company’s in-house mail servers to near capacity and beginning to cause performance issues. Windsor Foods’ Vice President of Information Technology, Stephan Henze, knew they had to make a choice: “Start deleting, buy more storage or start archiving.”

Following a lengthy evaluation of the leading on-premise email archiving providers, Henze —once a skeptic of the SaaS delivery model —determined that a hosted email archiving solution would be the best fit. “SaaS is definitely the way to go for email archiving because of the amount of data involved, especially when you consider the total cost of ownership of an on-premise solution, which includes added costs for backups, storage and disaster recovery,” Henze notes.

In addition, Windsor Foods needed an archiving solution with e-discovery functionality and Discovery Archive proved to be the best match. “I felt it was important to implement an e-discovery solution as a best practice,” Henze added. “It’s quite a bit of work to retrieve data. We may or may not have it. An email archiving solution makes responding to e-discovery requests much easier—and faster. We know our data is there, and finding it would be a much more labor-intensive process without Discovery Archive. Plus, the interface is very clean and easy to navigate. There’s not a need for a lot of training —after only 15 minutes, I could easily do it.”

Windsor Foods believes that enhanced search capabilities will also greatly improve user productivity, since end users can now retrieve lost or deleted data from their own archives without involving IT or help desk staff. “We expect that Personal Archive will have a long-term positive impact on our day-to-day operations,” said Henze.

Henze also recalls the immediate benefit he experienced when using Personal Archive’s search functionality for the first time —“It’s much easier to locate information, using LiveOffice Personal Archive instead of Outlook search. I needed to find a PDF file in an email that was two-and-a-half years old. I conducted a search with only a couple parameters and quickly found it with the search filters.”

Another benefit of selecting a SaaS archiving solution was the rapid implementation process. Henze remarks, “It was easy to deploy without interrupting normal business operations, and the learning curve was short.” Once deployed, the company saw a bump in overall system performance and legacy data became easier to manage and recover. “It’s much faster to find things in searches with the LiveOffice email archiving solutions. Overall, we couldn’t be happier with our vendor choice,” said Henze.

MSCS packages hosted Exchange email, other services aimed at small and medium-sized business owners

New York, NY – August 20, 2009 – Intermedia, the global leader in Exchange hosting, today announced the availability of online resources that its private label partners can use to promote Microsoft Communication Services (MSCS) – a marketing package of hosted Exchange email, SharePoint and Office Communications Server. The news comes on the heels of a July announcement from Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) that Intermedia is among a select group of companies it is working with to promote MSCS.

Intermedia and Microsoft’s marketing alliance is called Microsoft Communication Services from Intermedia. MSCS was designed to appeal directly to small and medium-sized business owners. The MSCS marketing resources that Intermedia and Microsoft developed will enable Intermedia’s partners to be more effective in marketing the productivity value of Microsoft Exchange email, SharePoint and Office Communications Server.

Intermedia partners are able to promote MSCS and other hosted Microsoft offerings under their own brand, managing the underlying services with a private label version of Intermedia’s proprietary control panel. According to Bob Leibholz, Intermedia’s vice president of sales and business development, “Small and medium-sized business owners view email, scheduling, and document sharing as communication tools. MSCS is a way to engage business owners using language that aligns with this view. It’s a marketing package in the best sense of the term, and we’re proud to make it available to our partners. We expect to accelerate our growth as a result of this marketing effort and help our partners do so as well.”

Developed by Microsoft, the MSCS marketing resources help Intermedia partners identify appropriate prospects and then engage them with compelling messages. The resources are available for download on Intermedia’s Partner Portal, which also includes resources for marketing Intermedia’s Exchange hosting and other hosted solutions. Resources specific to MSCS include email, letter, phone script, and web site templates to which Intermedia partners can apply their own branding.

Intermedia hosts over 200,000 premium Microsoft Exchange mailboxes – more than any other hosted Exchange provider – and over 400,000 mailboxes total. Intermedia’s partner program includes internationally recognized Fortune 500 brands as well as more than 3,500 small and medium-sized businesses – primarily managed service providers (MSPs) and other technology solution providers. The profitable 14-year old company offers migration services to transition its partners’ existing Exchange accounts with no disruption.
