Exchange Hosting ‘Ceryx

Ceryx, a Microsoft Gold Partner of Excellence, is recognized by Microsoft for two new additional specializations in Hosting and Unified Communications

TORONTO – June 12th, 2008 – Ceryx, the leading provider of secure and reliable hosted and managed Microsoft® Exchange Server, email messaging and collaboration software, today announced it has been recognized by Microsoft for two additional areas of specialization – in Microsoft Hosting and Unified Communications.

These new competencies complement an array of specializations already earned by Ceryx, as a Gold Partner of Excellence, including Networking Infrastructure Solutions Competency, Security Solutions Competency, Mobility Solutions Competency and Small Business Specialist Community.

“We are really pleased Microsoft continues to develop and refine this program”, says Gus Harsfai, President and C.E.O. of Ceryx. “The Unified Communications Solutions Competency is a broad category that encompasses not only IM and more advanced communications integration, but also the messaging migration work we help our customers with every day.”

The Unified Communications Solutions competency includes three specializations:

IM/Presence, designed to showcase expertise in the planning, deployment, and management of instant messaging solutions
Messaging, designed to showcase expertise in migration and deployment solutions for email and calendaring
Voice, designed to showcase expertise in implementing VoIP, unified messaging, and conferencing solutions
Ceryx had to achieve four or more solutions competencies within the Microsoft Partner Program in order to qualify for the Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Excellence Program. Microsoft Competencies are designed to help differentiate a technology partner’s capabilities with specific Microsoft-based technologies to customers looking for a particular type of solution. Each competency has a unique set of requirements and benefits, formulated to accurately represent the specific skills and services that technology partners bring to the industry.

“With this program Microsoft is clearly recognizing that not all partners have developed the same skills and subsequently, not all hosted solutions are alike,” says Harsfai. “Ceryx continues to develop a differentiated offering and deliver a hosted solution with a unique set of features and services that cater to the mid-market and Enterprise.”

Through it’s while-label reseller division, ThinOffice, Ceryx has been also able to deliver those same innovations to the SMB through a broad base of resellers.

Real Estate Services Provider Transitions to Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based Solution For Network of 12,000 Sales Representatives

TORONTO – June 19, 2007. Ceryx, the leading provider of secure and reliable hosted and managed Microsoft® Exchange Server, email messaging and collaboration software, today announced that it successfully deployed a Microsoft Exchange Server-based email solution for Royal LePage’s network of 12,000 sales reps. In addition, the company migrated 80 Royal LePage Franchise Headquarter employees onto its high availability Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based service with mobile device integration.

Royal LePage had been using anti-spam and anti-virus tools from another provider but the solution had proved to be highly unstable, and was impacting productivity. Issues included dropped messages, faulty updates, and inconsistent quarantining of ‘spam’ messages resulting in an excessive number of false positives. Agents were frustrated by the system and were clamouring for a change. In January 2007, the decision was made to replace the existing anti-spam and anti-virus system and select a new vendor. After short-listing three companies, Ceryx was chosen. “Ease of use, availability, performance, and customization were the selling points for us,” says Joanne Lockman, Director of Operations.

Originally, Royal LePage had only sought an anti-spam and anti-virus solution to replace the problematic one in place. Ceryx was able to demonstrate that a Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution would provide enterprise class messaging to Royal LePage’s stakeholders without having to make a significant investment in infrastructure and that it would not be significantly more expensive than the anti-virus and anti-spam solution they had already committed to. The Ceryx Hosted Exchange solution offered some compelling benefits, including matching features to user requirements on an as-needed basis. Many of the Royal LePage stakeholders leverage advanced communications to stay close to their market and serve their clients better. The high degree of integration to Smart phones and BlackBerry devices was of particular interest to a community that doesn’t make money sitting behind a desk but needs to stay connected. The decision was made to deploy Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution with BlackBerry integration immediately to many of their Royal LePage Franchise Headquarter users.

It is particularly challenging for franchise organizations like Royal LePage to make a Microsoft Exchange Server solution available to all of their stakeholders affordably, as they may not be able to take advantage of Microsoft Enterprise Agreements the same way other large enterprises can. Royal LePage initially rolled out Ceryx’s solution to their agents, which is a specialized Ceryx offering that provides the flexibility of Hosted Microsoft Exchange for users who don’t require all of the collaborative features. Agents have the option of upgrading to the full collaborative Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution at any point with a simple plan upgrade through Royal LePage Franchise Headquarters.

“Companies are under growing pressure to find cost-effective ways to seamlessly manage their networking and email environments, and as a result, we are increasingly seeing customers turn to hosted services as an efficient way to help fulfill this need,” says Bryan Rusche, Product Manager, Exchange Server, Microsoft Canada Co. “With Microsoft Exchange Server, companies like Royal LePage can get enhanced security, manageability and the ability to create a highly integrated unified communications environment to help run their business.”

The rollout involved migrating more than 12,000 users from the old platform, training their admin resources, and some customization to the web admin interface. “Ceryx wasn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and work through a number of variables that allowed us to migrate in a shorter time and in a way that was economically viable for us,” says Scott Webb, Director of IT. “They went above and beyond to find and resolve our pain points and they even solved problems that we didn’t even know we had.”

Considerations included:

Aggressive timeline. Royal LePage wanted to roll out very quickly as the existing solution was having a material impact on their business. Ceryx met and exceeded all timeline scenarios and the full cutover was done over 24 hours.
User scenarios: Three different feature configurations were deployed,
An Ultra Lite version of Microsoft Exchange for the sales rep network who have the option of upgrading to full collaboration, hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution;
Full collaboration hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution;
Hosted Microsoft Exchange-based solution with mobility for tighter integration with Blackberry and ActiveSync smart phones.
Migration: Ceryx guided Royal LePage through the migration of their corporate users from GroupWise to the new hosted Microsoft Exchange-based platform.
Anti-spam and anti-virus: Ceryx’s lauded and proprietary anti-spam and anti-virus solutions allow the user greater flexibility in managing their quarantined email, including digests of blocked email and easy user management of miss-quarantined messages.
User administration: Ceryx’s web-based administration tools made setting up and managing user accounts much easier for administrators.
“Royal LePage is a demanding client with high standards and high expectations. Ceryx always takes our requests seriously and has far surpassed our expectations at every level,” adds Lockman. “Ceryx’s mandate is to provide an affordable, reliable and flexible service that matches feature sets to user requirements – no matter if it is 2 people or 20,000,” says Gus Harsfai, President and CEO, Ceryx. “Our ‘customizable’ approach respects the diverse needs of our clients, providing them with the services they need, where and when they need it.”

TORONTO, October 2, 2006 – Ceryx announced that it has been selected as a finalist in the Solution Awards for Advanced Infrastructure Solution of the Year at the 2006 Microsoft Partner Program IMPACT Awards. The fourth annual Microsoft Partner Program IMPACT Awards acknowledge the exceptional work technology partners in Canada are doing with Microsoft-based technologies and software to deliver innovative solutions and unmatched value to their customers.

“Each year, technology partners continue to raise the bar in technology innovation and reaffirm their ability to deliver specific solutions that help meet customer demand,” said Lora Gernon, Director, Partner Group, Microsoft Canada Co. “The 2006 finalists demonstrated strong expertise in a diversity of markets and the Microsoft Partner Program IMPACT Awards celebrate the innovative solutions they developed to help drive real business growth.”

Ceryx was chosen as a finalist in Solution Awards for Advanced Infrastructure Solution of the Year for their highly available Hosted and Managed Exchange services. Ceryx pioneered the 100% SLA to the Exchange messaging community and to date is the only company with the technology capable of backing up the guarantee.

Email is the most mission critical business tool for communications with employees, vendors and customers. Ceryx responded to this need by creating a system that offered unparalleled uptime and performance capable of withstanding any type of disaster coupled with an integrated, industry leading solution for controlling spam and virus threats.

Ceryx built a Hosted Exchange 2003 (HX) infrastructure that is fully geographically redundant with no single point of failure that could affect the customer’s ability to use their messaging or collaboration platform. TORONTO, September 12, 2006 – Messaging service provider Ceryx, announced today that Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, has outsourced their messaging systems to Ceryx. Allstate Canada migrated to Microsoft Exchange 2003 replacing their internal Microsoft Exchange 5.5 system with a secure, redundant and dedicated system, managed by Ceryx.

Challenged with the increasing demands their e-mail system put on its IT resources, Allstate Canada looked for ways to focus their resources on improving operational effectiveness. It recognized its Exchange 5.5 server needed to be upgraded. However, an internal mail system upgrade would require new hardware expenses, staff training and further IT resources. In the process of planning an upgrade, Allstate Canada felt it was a perfect opportunity to evaluate outsourcing their mail system to a vendor who specializes in e-mail.

“We needed to alleviate current and future resource issues and requirements needed to manage an Exchange environment,“ said Juha Tuominen, IT Project Manager for Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. “We needed to get the IT team focus back to supporting Allstate Canada’s core business, insurance.”

Allstate Canada conducted a detailed evaluation of services providers and chose Ceryx as the best fit for its needs. Ceryx met their requirements for a secure, reliable and redundant system with their hardened architecture for managed Exchange 2003 services which also includes migration services, 24/7 customer support and advanced antivirus and antispam.

“We recognized the advantages to working with Ceryx right away,” said Tuominen. “They are focused on messaging and collaboration. They have a high-quality service at a reasonable price, and exceptional expertise. We see Ceryx as a long term partner for Allstate Canada.” By choosing Ceryx Managed Exchange, Allstate Canada will shorten its time to benefit, reduce the upgrade risks by using messaging experts, improve service levels and support, and communication and collaboration for all their employees.

“Organizations such as Allstate Canada are demonstrating that messaging outsourcing is not just for small and medium-sized businesses,” said Gus Harsfai, President and CEO of Ceryx. “Allstate is part of a growing trend of larger organizations that recognize the benefits of outsourcing its e-mail systems. They are seeking experienced service providers, like Ceryx, that can provide fully-managed, highly available, redundant, secure, enterprise-class messaging and collaboration services.”

Ceryx Managed Exchange provides a rapidly deployed, scalable, enterprise-class Exchange solution to large enterprise customers. Similar to Ceryx Hosted Exchange, Managed Exchange is a full-service solution that includes 24/7 end-user support, e-mail security with an advanced anti-virus and anti-spam and sophisticated quarantine management. Ceryx works closely with Managed Exchange clients to architect a secure, redundant and dedicated environment and to ensure a well-planned migration to our high availability service.

TORONTO, July 19, 2006 – Messaging service provider Ceryx announced today that Mark Burnett Productions, a leading production company of reality televisions hit shows such as Survivor and The Apprentice, has hired Ceryx to advance and manage their messaging and collaboration system.

Mark Burnett Productions had an ISP POP3-based email system that provided limited messaging functionality and wasn’t keeping up with their growing email needs. In their high-demand production environment, they needed instant access to their mail and the ability to collaborate with others.

Since many staff work on their own computers, the production company also had problems supporting users in a complex mixed environment with many different OS versions of both PC and MAC. Finally, when staff is working remotely on location, the IT department found it hard to troubleshoot problems with staff in various time zones around the world.

“We have users working offsite, frequently in remote locations. We needed an email system that supported both PC and MAC users that was secure and provided reliable LAN and wireless access. It was important to have 24/7 support covering Microsoft Outlook, Entourage and mobility” said Mark Bradford Bennett, Operations Manager for Mark Burnett Productions.

They needed messaging experts who could address these problems and quickly scale as they added staff for new shows such as Rockstar: Supernova for their high demand production schedule. With the move to Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange, Mark Burnett Productions employees in the office, on the go, or on a remote Survivor location are able to communicate and collaborate securely.

“Ceryx’s 24/7 support team is the best I’ve ever encountered,” commented Bradford Bennett. “Their whole team is very knowledgeable and responsive; they are email experts”.

“We are very excited to have Mark Burnett Productions as a new Ceryx client,” said Gus Harsfai, President and CEO of Ceryx. “They understand how critical and sensitive communications is to their business and selected Ceryx based on our messaging expertise, fully redundant platform and geographically dispersed data centres.”

Ceryx Hosted Exchange 2003 is a full-service solution that includes 24/7end-user support and e-mail security. Since an immunity idol only works for Survivor participants, Ceryx’s advanced anti-virus and anti-spam with sophisticated quarantine management make sure that Mark Burnett Productions employees are never left stranded without email.

TORONTO, March 10, 2006 – Ceryx Inc., corporate messaging service provider, today announced it has achieved Gold Certified status in the Microsoft Partner Program. The company earned competencies in Advanced Infrastructure Solutions with an Exchange Migration and Deployment Specialization and Hosting Solutions Specialization, Information Worker Solutions with a Messaging and Collaboration Specialization, and Mobility Solutions recognizing Ceryx’s messaging expertise and total impact in the technology marketplace. As a Gold Certified partner, Ceryx has demonstrated expertise with Microsoft technologies and proven ability to meet customers’ needs. Microsoft Gold Certified Partners receive a rich set of benefits, including access, training and support, giving them a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Ceryx, a Toronto-based messaging service provider for businesses, delivers highly available e-mail services by bringing together over 17 years of operational experience, advanced geo-replicated infrastructure and proprietary messaging and collaboration solutions. Ceryx’s line of messaging services includes hosted and managed Microsoft Exchange, Windows Mobile and wireless integration, business continuity and e-mail hygiene services.

“We are extremely pleased to have achieved Gold Certified status in the Microsoft Partner Program,” said Gus Harsfai, President and CEO. “This is a very important milestone for Ceryx. It distinguishes our presence in the messaging industry and allows us to clearly promote our expertise and relationship with Microsoft to our customers.”

“Customers are looking for partner companies that can bridge the gap between their business demands and technology capabilities. They need to trust in someone that can act as an expert adviser for their long-term strategic technology plans. Microsoft Gold Certified Partners, which have certified expertise and direct training and support from Microsoft, can build a positive customer experience with our technologies,” said Allison Watson, vice president of the Worldwide Partner Sales and Marketing Group at Microsoft Corp. “Today, Microsoft recognizes Ceryx as a new Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for demonstrating its expertise in providing customer satisfaction with Microsoft products and technology.”

As one of the requirements for attaining Gold Certified Status, Ceryx had to declare a Microsoft Competency. Microsoft Competencies are designed to help differentiate a partner’s capabilities with specific Microsoft technologies to customers looking for a particular type of solution. Each competency has a unique set of requirements and benefits, formulated to accurately represent the specific skills and services that partners bring to the technology industry.

The Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Competency is designed for partners with proven expertise in designing and/or implementing complex infrastructure solutions such as Active Directory®-based and Microsoft Exchange Server migration or deployment solutions. Because customers are increasingly asking to do more with less, partners with the Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Competency can identify their unique skill in helping customers access management solutions, improving operational efficiency and reducing security risks.

“Our industry partners allow us to deliver high-quality solutions and applications to our customers. And we’re always looking at ways to improve our relationships,” said Paul Flessner, senior vice president of the Server Platform Division at Microsoft. “Solutions Competencies enable Microsoft to provide resources and training to partners seeking to meet, and even surpass, customer needs. The competencies also provide industry partners with a way to showcase their expertise to customers who depend on them for services, such as building their critical infrastructure needs such as storage and hosting solutions.”

The Microsoft Partner Program was launched in December 2003 and represents Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to the success of partners worldwide. The program offers a single, integrated partnering framework that recognizes partner expertise, rewards the total impact that partners have in the technology marketplace, and delivers more value to help partners’ businesses be successful.

TORONTO, February 8th, 2006 – High availability messaging service provider Ceryx, today announced that Cookie Jar, which develops, produces, distributes and markets quality products to children, parents and teachers, has chosen Ceryx’s Hosted exchange platform to manage their messaging and team collaboration needs.

Headquartered in Toronto, Cookie Jar’s numerous global offices and remote employees throughout the U.S. are challenged with ensuring seamless deployment across a highly distributed environment, while communicating across a number of time zones. With reliability and 24-hour access being paramount to Cookie Jar’s success, their previous Hosted Exchange provider’s sporadic outages, delays in communication, and lack of weekend support helped make the decision to migrate to Ceryx an easy one.

“Instead of having to track down people for help, Ceryx is the one calling us now, always checking in to see if they can assist.” says Mike Haas, IT Manager at Cookie Jar. “Knowing there are multiple layers of redundancy, specifically Ceryx’s duplicate server to detect and suppress emergencies, also offers us a significant amount of assurance and confidence that we have been looking for.”

“With 120 exchange seats and 25 mobile devices demanding a variety of messaging and collaboration needs, Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange provides the flexibility a company of this size craves,” said Gus Harsfai, President of Ceryx. “Ceryx works closely with all our clients to ensure 100% reliability and quality service.”

Despite the problems they experienced with their first hosted solution, Cookie Jar’s global network and need for a decentralized, reliable partner demanded the services of a hosted solution. Cookie Jar had an existing relationship with their IT support partner Fort Nocs who provides them with a full range of technology managed services and is also a Premier Partner of Ceryx. “Essentially we wanted to help our client increase productivity, lower the pain points and get better control of the unpredictable monthly costs that they were incurring with their previous provider,” says Jim Latimer, President of Fort Nocs Networks. “The Ceryx delegated admin control panel enables us to streamline our current desktop support for our client to efficiently manage Exchange services.”

Cookie Jar finally made the migration to Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange Solution on December 1st, 2006. Over the course of three days, the migration was managed in 3 stages with the majority of backend support conducted after hours. The transition was straightforward and seamless and since the full migration launch on December 1st, Cookie Jar’s email service has been without incident.

Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange 2003 allows businesses to receive all of the benefits of Microsoft Exchange 2003 in a premium, fully managed service with complete redundancy and real-time replication – without the administrative headaches or hefty price tag. Well-architected, highly-available and secure, Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange 2003′s real-time replication of your data to Tier 4 data centres in Canada and the U.S., means zero to minimal downtime even in the event of a major catastrophe. The Ceryx Solution also includes Email Firewall, an advanced email security service with 24×7 threat management, multifactor antivirus and fully managed antispam.
