Exchange Hosting ‘LightEdge Solutions

NEW YORK, August 20, 2008 – For the second consecutive year, Inc. has ranked LightEdge Solutions, a leading-edge provider of hosted business-grade IT and communications services, on its annual ranking of the 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in the country. Compared to other sectors, Business IT Services ranked as the strongest in the 2008 list with 579 of the 5,000 on the list belonging to this high-growth group. The list is the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy – America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.

“Our second annual Inc. 5000 continues the most ambitious project in business journalism,” said Inc. 5000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The Inc. 5000 gives an unrivalled portrait of young, underreported companies across all industries doing fascinating things with cutting-edge business models, as well as older companies that are still showing impressive growth.”

LightEdge Solutions, a provider of hosted IT and communications services for small and medium-sized business, is currently involved in several high-growth opportunities that its new owner, Anschutz Investment Company, is banking on to push the company to national prominence. The company’s offerings include business-grade hosted PBX and converged access Voice-over-IP telephone services, hosted communication and collaboration applications (Microsoft Exchange, Communicator, SharePoint), hosted server/storage solutions, business continuity and premise-based consulting services. While the trend for hosted IT services is expected to continue, some experts believe that the present economy will expedite adoption as businesses are looking to reduce large capital spending.

“We consider 2008 to be the start of even bigger things,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “We believe that the concept of hosted technology will become a very disruptive force in the next few years and that it will ultimately allow entrepreneurs the focus and freedom to explore business ventures without the need for expensive IT hardware and the care and feeding that goes along with it.”

The 5,000 companies that made the list reported aggregate revenue of $185 billion and median three-year growth of 147 percent. Most important, the 2008 Inc. 5000 companies were engines of job growth, having created more than 826,033 jobs since those companies were founded. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and a list of the fastest-growing companies that can be sorted by industry and region can be found at www.inc5000.com.

Methodology
The 2008 Inc. 5000 list measures revenue growth from 2004 through 2007. To qualify, companies must be U.S.-based and privately held, for profit, independent – not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies – as of December 31, 2007, and have had at least $200,000 in revenue in 2004, and $2 million in 2007.

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 12, 2008 — Strong flooding in downtown Cedar Rapids have caused businesses to leave their offices and seek alternative business plans. Ascott Transcription Service, a Cedar Rapids company which provides medical transcription services for Veterans Administration hospitals, today reacted to the flooding by moving company servers and key staff to a business continuity facility located in Altoona, IA.

Ascott, a LightEdge Voice-over-IP and Business Internet customer since 2005, has provisioned a server rack and seats in the business recovery workspace for key employees through an emergency action initiative by LightEdge Solutions. The company’s Voice-over-IP phone system will be quickly redirected to phones already provisioned in the workspace.

“I’m at a loss for words,” said a still shaken Bernard Gill, the Vice President of Ascott Transcriptions Service. “When our best plans failed, we turned to LightEdge for support and to ensure the survival of our business.”

On Tuesday, June 10th, LightEdge Solutions announced an initiative to clients allowing them to provision servers rack space and business recovery workspace seats on short-term, emergency agreements. In two days, over 15 customers have relocated servers and other equipment from at-risk areas to dry and secure data center space within the facility.

“The crisis that Cedar Rapids is experiencing now is likely what Des Moines will be facing in the days ahead,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “The Business Continuity Center in Altoona was specifically built for challenging situations such as this. I am glad that the facility and our team can be helpful to the business community.”

The facility, operated by LightEdge Solutions of Des Moines, is resilient dual-purpose building including both data center facilities and business recovery workspace. Its data centers are fed with redundant access to power, Internet and telco services and the facility itself is able to withstand up to 200 mph winds. The business recovery workspace has been provisioned with cubicles, PC’s and phones to accommodate up to 300 workers. Located just outside the Des Moines metro area, the facility is not impacted by either the Des Moines or Raccoon Rivers.

For additional details on server rack space and employee workspace, contact LightEdge at 877-771-3343.

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 11, 2008 — Businesses in downtown Des Moines and in parts of Eastern Iowa are moving servers and other devices to the EdgeBCC business continuity facility and Data Center operated by LightEdge Solutions and located in Altoona, IA. In this challenging time, these businesses are able to keep their critical business application and processes online by moving to a facility that was designed to withstand the worst weather Iowa could dish out.
Due to the impending risks associated with the flood, LightEdge is currently offering temporary server rack space for existing and new customers. Employee disaster recovery workspace is also being offered on short contracts.

At the time of this release, at least 12 companies are actively moving servers into the business continuity facility and are reestablishing their network connections and regaining critical business systems that were at risk from the flood. It is expected that additional businesses will begin to move servers and employees to the business continuity center as the Des Moines River approaches its crest.

“Simply put, this is about helping people when you can. The LightEdge team will be working diligently through this crisis to uphold our business commitment to our customers,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “The EdgeBCC was designed to provide services through disastrous events such as this. We’re grateful that we can be of service in this time of great need.”

The Edge Business Continuity Center (EdgeBCC) is a state-of-the-art facility located in Altoona, IA offering over state-of-the-art environmentally controlled data center space and over 300 disaster recovery workstations provisioned with desktops and Voice-over-IP phone handsets. The facility has been built around a highly redundant private IP network infrastructure, allowing for some of the highest service level agreements in the industry.

For additional details on server rack space and employee workspace, contact LightEdge at 877-771-3343.

DES MOINES, Iowa, May 6, 2008 — LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of managed business services, today announced the general availability of its hosted service for the BlackBerry solution that extends the deliverability of LightEdge’s Hosted Microsoft Exchange service. The service will allow organizations utilizing the LightEdge Hosted Exchange environment to securely send and receive data using LightEdge’s new-hosted BlackBerry® Enterprise Server offering.

Customers utilizing the hosted BlackBerry Enterprise Server offering from LightEdge will be able to conveniently access their Hosted Exchange environment including e-mail, attachments, tasks, notes and calendar events, at any time from anywhere. Any changes, updates or deletions made from a BlackBerry smartphone will be updated immediately and synchronized with the Hosted Exchange server, resulting in an integrated extension of the productivity tools used in the office.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server provides a bridge between an organization’s secure internal environment and BlackBerry smartphones. All messages and data exchanged between BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry smartphones are encrypted using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES). Additional security is provided through IT policies that include password protecting the handset, resetting passwords, enabling lockouts after a specified period of idle time and performing remote locks or data wipes if the device is lost or stolen.

“With the pace of business today, mobile communication is becoming a necessity for businesses of all sizes, however it has been too expensive and time-consuming for businesses with no internal IT resources to deploy a truly scalable and secure internal platform,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “By integrating a BlackBerry Enterprise Server with our existing Microsoft Exchange environment we can now offer our customers a hosted solution that provides the best of all worlds – a communication package that allows employees to be productive both in and out of the office, while ensuring the security and integrity of valuable business information.”

BlackBerry Enterprise Server integration is just one of the many ways that LightEdge Solutions is continuing to fulfill the vision of integrating the technologies related to voice, data and IT to better meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses. The company’s 2008 launch plan includes several other new hosted and managed services that will help business owners increase productivity, improve accessibility and reduce costs without time-consuming and expensive internal IT work.

DES MOINES, Iowa, April 30, 2008 — LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of managed Voice, Data and IT business services, today announced the availability of VoIP telephony service using managed Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) access. Through this managed connection, voice and data are carried over a QoS-enabled private IP network that is monitored and controlled end-to-end by LightEdge Solutions’ network operations staff. Previously, only businesses that could afford T1 lines could obtain that type of service and superior voice quality. The entire LightEdge product portfolio is now deliverable over managed DSL, which includes managed backup, Hosted Exchange and Wan IP. This achievement marks a major milestone for the company and for the industry as a whole as more emphasis is being placed on providing cost-effective managed services for small and medium-sized businesses.

The managed solution reduces the cost of traditional phone service by integrating voice and data services into a single DSL connection and providing multiple call functionality without dedicated analog phone lines. Depending upon the customer premise equipment selected, the LightEdge VoDSL solution can simultaneously support up to seventeen voice calls and transport data over each DSL line. The service is ideal for companies with up to forty employees at single location, or multiple locations when used with the LightEdge WAN IP product.

“The launch of this product is really pivotal for our business right now. We’ve been searching for ways to take our managed Voice-over-IP services and make it available for the masses,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “By managing the DSL loop from end to end we can give small and medium-sized businesses access to a level of service and scalability that is just not available through another VoIP provider.”

LightEdge will offer the VoDSL services in several speeds with a maximum bandwidth of 7 Mbps. Customer location will determine eligibility and speeds available for the service. VoDSL will initially be offered in Minneapolis, Des Moines and Omaha, with additional markets available in the near future.

DES MOINES, Iowa, March 25, 2008 — LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of managed business services, today announced that it has been wholly acquired by The Anschutz Company for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition includes the purchase of all outstanding stock, retirement of all accumulated debt and access to growth capital for an aggressive operational and strategic expansion. All employees will be retained through the acquisition. The LightEdge executive management team will remain and continue to manage the company through an aggressive national expansion.

“With Anschutz Company’s expertise in the communications industry and the access to growth capital, LightEdge will be able to better fulfill our corporate vision of providing affordable, highly-reliable managed voice, data and IT services to small and medium-sized businesses in our current and new markets.” said Jim Masterson, chief executive officer and chairman of LightEdge Solutions. “We are now, more than ever, poised to provide our customers the long term partnership we have always promised.”

LightEdge Solutions had initially become successful as a provider of reliable high-speed Internet and Wide-Area-Networks for small and medium-sized businesses in the mid-90’s. In 2003, the company expanded its product offerings by creating an enterprise-grade Voice-over-IP telephony platform. At a time when most companies only offered Converged Access, LightEdge went to market with both Converged Access and Hosted PBX VoIP products. In 2006 LightEdge partnered with a local developer to create a stand-alone, unified data center and business continuity work facility. This facility houses nearly 10,000 square feet of data center space and an equal amount of workspace for business continuity activities. The company is currently developing a completely integrated hosted communication suite based on Microsoft’s Exchange, Communicator and SharePoint products.

With the financial backing of the Anschutz Company, LightEdge is positioned extremely well to duplicate its business successes in new markets across the country to become a national managed IT service provider. Growth will initially come organically through enhanced sales and marketing initiatives in the existing markets of Des Moines, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha, Phoenix, the Quad Cities and new markets. .

About the Anschutz Company
The Anschutz Company is a diversified, privately owned investment firm, owning or with major investments in over 100 companies represented primarily in the fields of energy, pipelines, agriculture, real estate, film production, movie theaters, telecommunications, sports, entertainment, and newspaper publishing.

DES MOINES, Iowa, January 28, 2008 — LightEdge Solutions, a leading provider of managed IT services, today announced that Misys Healthcare has selected LightEdge’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) hosting capabilities for Misys MyWay™, a new electronic medical record (EMR) application. This new offering and its SaaS delivery model will allow Misys to extend its reach to small ambulatory practices, a group that has yet to adopt electronic medical records in a significant way. Misys, a market leader in healthcare IT, currently offers comprehensive solutions for the ambulatory healthcare market.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recently reported that while electronic medical records are prevalent in hospitals and large clinics, only 17 percent of physician practices are currently utilizing EMRs. The high initial cost of software, hardware and implementation coupled with the ongoing stressors of maintaining a secure storage infrastructure for sensitive medial information is often deemed too high for most physicians in private ambulatory practices. Software delivered as a “service” has the advantage of predictable monthly costs, minimal need for IT involvement and confidence that the server and storage environment is being monitored and maintained 24×7 by knowledgeable system engineers.

“Misys MyWay, delivered through a centralized host, has the capability of dramatically changing the EMR playing field for this market segment,” said Steve Slaton, Director of Product Strategy. “We chose to partner with LightEdge because of its state-of-the-art facility and its expertise in both designing a platform that will deliver the performance, reliability and security and maintaining such a platform successfully.”

LightEdge will host the Misys MyWay application from a hardened, next-generation facility built in 2006. Designed to provide the highest level of reliability, the facility sits atop two separate power grids and has a failover UPS system (uninterruptible power supply) and backup diesel generators. Highly scalable Internet feeds from six independent providers assure reliable access to applications hosted within the data center.

To ensure that both the Misys MyWay application and the sensitive patient medical data it contains are highly available, the LightEdge team has designed the solution with a secure, redundant platform in an alternate data center location. Data will be continually synchronized between the two systems allowing it to automatically failover to the alternate facility if the primary platform is unavailable.

“This partnership with Misys reinforces the trend that we’re seeing in nearly every industry,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. “As the demands for IT and IT services grow, businesses are coming to the conclusion that they can streamline their organization by out-tasking the IT functions that aren’t part of their core business.”

DES MOINES, Iowa, October 11, 2007—Telephony magazine, a Penton Media publication, has awarded LightEdge Solutions®, Inc. the 2007 Telephony Innovation Award for Innovative Technology Deployment based on its utilization of Actelis Networks’ EFMplus™ Ethernet over copper technology. LightEdge Solutions, one of the Midwest’s leading providers of enterprise-grade, managed voice, data and IT services for small and medium sized businesses, has deployed this solution for customers with ongoing scalability needs.

The Telephony Innovation Awards—given for the first time at Telephony LIVE: The 2007 Telecom Summit in Dallas—recognizes service providers who have developed unique or first-to-market offerings that utilize technology or address customers’ needs in a new way. Focused on five key categories, the innovations recognized come in many forms: design, delivery, pricing, bundling, packaging or customer service and address various market segments, including consumers, corporate enterprises and SMBs. Award recipients were recognized at a special presentation held during Telephony LIVE on October 10.

“We established these awards to recognize innovation in the industry at a time when all service providers are trying to differentiate themselves in a highly competitive market,” said Telephony Publisher Mark Hickey. “The award winners are companies who chose not to just follow the technology curve, but to bring their customers services that meet their needs in distinctive ways.”

LightEdge Solutions deployed Actelis’ ML600 Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) and ML100 and ML1300 transport and aggregation switches to better serve the growing bandwidth needs of its SMB customers. By utilizing Actelis’ products—built with EFMplus technology—as a cost-effective alternative to slower T-1 lines, business customers can connect quickly to the LightEdge IP network via symmetrical Ethernet access connections for high-speed Internet access, Voice-over-IP (VoIP), remote managed back-up and security services, as well as retrieve applications and data on servers within LightEdge’s data center.

“With traditional T-1 lines delivering only 1.5 Mbps, we would have to either add line cards to the router or change routers completely to upgrade the bandwidth service of a customer,” said Kris Harris, vice president of operations at LightEdge Solutions. “The Actelis carrier Ethernet solution is efficient because we can leverage the same equipment for all service levels. This provides our business customers the ability to quickly upgrade their bandwidth as much as tenfold without the need for additional equipment or the time necessary to process changes. When customers need more than a bonded 2xT-1 line or have foreseeable scalability needs, the Actelis option makes a lot of sense.”

“Carrier Ethernet over copper technology has become a popular way for service providers to extend the reach of their networks to offer more bandwidth more easily and cost effectively,” said Telephony Editor-in-Chief Carol Wilson. “LightEdge has gone beyond the standard offering, however, with managed services that deliver data networking, IT hosting/management and hosted VoIP services that scale on demand, taking full advantage of what the Actelis technology can deliver. This makes the service very appealing to small to mid-sized businesses that want sophisticated service offerings without the capital expense or need for an IT staff.”

Telephony received more than 80 nominations for its Telephony Innovation Awards. The process was handled by the mBLAST customer relationship management system. Judging was done by members of the Telephony editorial staff and guest judges Teresa Mastrangelo of Broadbandtrends.com and Cindy Whelan of Current Analysis.

“It is an honor to be recognized as an innovator by Telephony magazine,” said Jim Masterson, chairman and chief executive officer of LightEdge Solutions. “For LightEdge, it’s simply about providing technology that is valuable and impactful for our customers. With its incredible scalability, Ethernet over copper has been a real winner for our customers needing high-bandwidth service at a lower cost than banded T1s.

The Inc. 5,000, an extension of Inc. magazine’s annual Inc. 500 list, catches many businesses that are too big to grow at the pace required to make the Inc. 500, as well as a host of smaller firms. Taken as a whole, these companies represent the backbone of the U.S. economy.

“The Inc. 5,000 provides the most comprehensive look ever at the most important part of the economy – the entrepreneurial part,” said Inc. 5,000 Project Manager Jim Melloan. “The expansion of the list has allowed us to tell the stories of larger companies, older companies, and a wealth of companies in industries like Manufacturing and Construction that are underreported in the business media.

LightEdge Solutions, a managed services provider delivering technology solutions to the upper Midwest, clearly reflects the entrepreneurial spirit, dedication and innovation that Inc. pays homage to in its annual award. The company has established itself as an alert, first-to-market player in the Networking, Information Technology and Voice-over-IP segments and is uniquely positioned for substantial growth as companies react to market pressures by adopting remotely hosted and managed voice, IT and business continuity solutions.

“Visibility to market drivers and the ability to quickly and decisively act on the needs of the SMB have been the key to our current success,” said Jim Masterson, CEO and Chairman of LightEdge Solutions. “Our ranking in the Inc. 5,000 is a testament to a clear management vision, diligent execution by our staff and a strong understanding of managed services and technological out-tasking by our clients.”

In 2005, LightEdge was named a “Cool Vendor” by Gartner, Inc. Masterson was named a regional finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Award in 2006.

FREMONT, CA, August 13, 2007—Actelis Networks®, the leading global supplier of Carrier Ethernet over Copper™ solutions, today announced that LightEdge Solutions®, Inc., a leading provider of fully-managed voice, data and network services in the Midwest and Southwest, has deployed Ethernet Access Devices (EADs) from Actelis’ ML 600 product line, as well as ML 100 and ML 1300 transport and aggregation switches, to better serve the growing bandwidth needs of its small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers. By utilizing these products as a cost-effective alternative to slower T1 lines, business subscribers can connect quickly to the LightEdge IP network via symmetrical Ethernet access connections for high-speed Internet access, VoIP, remote managed backup and security services, as well as retrieve applications and data on servers within LightEdge’s data center.

LightEdge Solutions targets SMBs ranging from 25-250 employees. For this market, cost-effectively delivering emerging broadband services over the access network is key to their success, according to Kris Harris, vice president of operations at LightEdge Solutions.
“With T1 lines delivering only 1.5 Mbps, we would have to either add line cards to the router or change routers completely to upgrade the bandwidth service of a customer,” commented Harris. “The Actelis solution is efficient because we can leverage the same equipment for all service levels. This provides our customers the ability to quickly upgrade their bandwidth as much as tenfold without the need for additional equipment or the time necessary to process changes. When customers need more than a bonded 2xT1 line or have foreseeable scalability needs, the Actelis option makes a lot of sense.”

LightEdge Solutions leverages the economies of scale from their enterprise-grade network investments to carve out pieces (scale-on-demand services) for other businesses. Rather than building their own data center, buying and managing a premises-based IP PBX or investing in an IBM Blade Center and SAN (Storage Area Network), business customers can use LightEdge’s network and facilities for a predictable monthly fee.

“Small and medium-sized businesses win with this model because technology obsolescence is not a factor, upfront costs are minimal and, ultimately, the network platform is managed by a professional engineering staff,” said Wade Brower, director of sales at LightEdge. “Suddenly, small businesses are running on the same high reliability equipment as a Fortune 100 company, but they just aren’t paying the same upfront price tag.”

LightEdge currently has 28 customer installations based on Actelis’ award-winning carrier Ethernet solutions. For the past year, Community Health Care (CHC), located in Davenport, Iowa, has been using the Actelis carrier Ethernet solution to connect its three locations in Davenport with facilities in Rock Island and Moline, Ill.

In April CHC deployed LightEdge’s Hosted PBX VoIP service, delivered over their Actelis connection. The new telephony system connects all five CHC locations, with data traffic aggregated back to the main data center in Davenport. Ron Gillis, network administrator for CHC, says the determining factor to deploying this new telephony system was threefold: no upfront costs, no new hardware to purchase and the hardware was future-proof.

“Our phone system was outdated and in need of replacement,” explained Gillis, “so we were looking for a new cost-effective system that would leverage our existing network and assets. LightEdge, along with the combined Actelis Ethernet over copper solution, provided us with a hosted PBX VoIP system that is flexible, allowing me to quickly add more locations in the future while providing the necessary bandwidth needed to deliver high-speed Internet services and other hosted applications.”

“LightEdge’s ongoing commitment is to provide scalable, cost-effective network and IT solutions to businesses like Community Health Care,” added Brower. “We see a bright future enabling SMB customers to cost-effectively out-task their voice, data and network needs to a highly managed environment. We believe this provides our valued customers with a competitive advantage in their respective markets and, most importantly, the ability to quickly scale systems as their business grows.”

In June Actelis Networks published, “Carrier Ethernet Solutions Guide,” which discusses how carriers can deliver advanced carrier Ethernet-IP services to health care facilities like Community Health Care. Free copies are available by visiting www.Actelis.com.
