Exchange Hosting ‘Ceryx

TORONTO, December 13, 2005 – Messaging service provider, Ceryx announced today that RAND Worldwide®, one of the world’s leading providers of professional services to the engineering community, has outsourced their messaging system to Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange 2003. The move enables over 380 RAND employees in 70 client service centres around the world to communicate and collaborate in a secure and reliable messaging infrastructure.

Through various acquisitions, RAND’s messaging infrastructure had become a mix of dated e-mail systems limiting the functionality and overwhelming their IT department with the amount of time it took to support and maintain. Managing their e-mail system and resolving related issues consumed much of the department’s time and diverted attention away from other projects integral to the company’s core business.

E-mail is critical to RAND. It is the primary means of communication between their global offices in different time zones and it is integrated with many of their business systems. “When you’re a global business, your messaging infrastructure holds the company together,” said Roger Smith, Director of Information Systems for ENGINEERING.com, the company managing RAND’s Information Systems requirements. “RAND needed a more reliable and redundant system”.

“After a thorough evaluation, we chose to replace RAND’s internal messaging systems with Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange 2003 environment because of their experience in migrating from complex and unique messaging environments and their ability to deliver a secure, reliable and highly available service with 24 hour, 7 days-a-week customer support,” explained Smith.

“We are very pleased to have RAND, as a customer. Delivering highly available messaging and collaboration services and help desk support is critical for their business, we understand that and think we have the best solution in this market space,” said Gus Harsfai, President and CEO of Ceryx.

Ceryx Hosted Exchange 2003 is a full-service solution that includes 24/7end-user support, e-mail security with an advanced anti-virus and anti-spam with sophisticated quarantine management. Ceryx works closely with all clients to ensure a well-planned migration to our high availability service. The unique architecture is fully redundant, with real-time block-level data replication to secondary systems, in geographically dispersed data centers.

Toronto grocery chain simplifies e-mail infrastructure and decreases spam by 79 per cent.

TORONTO, May 25, 2005 – Messaging solutions provider Ceryx announced today that Longo’s and its subsidiary Grocery Gateway, one of Toronto’s premier grocery chains and most advanced online grocery retailer, is replacing its GroupWise messaging platform with Ceryx Hosted Exchange 2003. By outsourcing its Microsoft Exchange 2003 environment to Ceryx, Longo’s has improved the communication and collaboration among its 2300 employees and lowered costs.

With the acquisition of Grocery Gateway, Longo’s was faced with the challenge of integrating its mix match of Microsoft and GroupWise messaging platforms. Longo’s also wanted to find a solution that would enable it to better connect its employees’ mobile devices with its messaging platform. The grocery retailer decided to migrate to Microsoft Exchange 2003 because of its reliability and integration with mobile devices and turned to Ceryx to host its messaging environment.

“By moving from GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange 2003 we have been able to create a reliable and collaborative environment for our employees and we know as our business grows our messaging platform will grow with it,” said John Charleson, Director of IT, Longo’s. “Outsourcing our messaging platform with Ceryx was the right business decision for us. Ceryx’s messaging specialists monitor our systems for spam and viruses 24/7 and the built-in redundancy and real-time replication gives us the peace of mind that our mission critical messaging platform will always be available.”

Ceryx completed the architecture, implementation and migration plans and was able to move Longo’s from GroupWise onto Hosted Exchange 2003 over one weekend. Since the migration, in addition to improving communications, Longo’s has seen a 79 per cent reduction in the amount of spam and viruses the company’s messaging platform receives. Ceryx’s Email Firewall, part of its hosted Exchange solution, provides a fully managed e-mail security solution and includes AntiSpam, a service that controls all spam filters, whitelists and configurations for the customer.

“We are thrilled to have Longo’s and Grocery Gateway on our e-mail system,” said Gus Harsfai, President and CEO of Ceryx. “We believe that securing a cost-conscious customer like Longo’s further demonstrates the economics of e-mail outsourcing are very compelling and messaging outsourcing is gaining acceptance with larger businesses.”

“More and more small and medium sized businesses are looking to outsource their messaging environment,” said Paul Kaczmarczyk, Microsoft Canada Co. “Microsoft is committed to helping service providers like Ceryx deliver enhanced hosted messaging offerings based on Exchange 2003.”

TORONTO, April 18, 2005 – Ceryx, a Toronto-based corporate messaging solutions provider, recently appointed David Penny to the Senior Management team in the new position of Chief Information Officer. Dr. Penny will play an integral role in helping to guide the advancement of Ceryx’s core technologies.

CEO of Ceryx, Gus Harsfai commented, “We believe Dr. Penny’s success in bringing process, predictability, and high quality to the rigorous software vendor setting will translate well to the service provider setting”. “Ceryx has developed a number of proprietary applications that augment our core Exchange service offering that will benefit greatly from Dr. Penny’s experience with mission-critical application development.”

Previous to Dr. Penny’s arrival at Ceryx, he was VP R&D at Electronics Workbench, a software vendor company specializing in Windows-based applications for the electronics design industry. Dr. Penny brought improved quality, on-time delivery, and predictability to that company’s software development efforts, which was highly valued by its recent acquirer, National Instruments. Prior to Electronics Workbench, Dr. Penny was an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, where he remains an Adjunct Professor.

For five years Dr. Penny was also VP Software Development and CTO at Algorithmics Incorporated, a software vendor selling enterprise risk products to international investment banks. He was a key contributor in growing the company from under $2M in revenue to over $100M. Dr. Penny got his start in the software industry at IBM Toronto Labs, working on the development of an IDE for the C++ language under AIX. Prior to this, he completed his doctorate in Software Engineering at the University of Toronto in 1992.

“Ceryx has shown clear commitment to bringing innovative and technologically advanced solutions to the hosted and managed messaging space,” stated Penny. “The messaging expertise at Ceryx is phenomenal and I’m delighted to be able to add my experience in technology management, software and process engineering, and quality assurance into the mix.”

Ceryx investors were very excited about the addition of Dr. Penny. “We believe that Ceryx is clearly on the right development path to be able to attract someone with Dr. Penny’s depth of experience,” stated Bill Di Nardo of Eventi. “We also believe that the combination of Dr. Penny’s software development experience coupled with Gus Harsfai’s core messaging experience has vaulted them into a thought leadership position in the hosted and managed messaging industry today.”

TORONTO, Nov. 17, 2004 – Messaging solutions provider Ceryx is now offering a 100 per cent e-mail uptime guarantee for its Hosted Exchange 2003 service. The promise is made possible because Ceryx is the first ASP in North America to include real-time replication with data rewind and e-mail continuity services with Microsoft’s Hosted Exchange 2003.

“For most businesses, e-mail is a mission-critical application, but too often e-mail systems fail,” explained Gus Harsfai, President and CEO of Ceryx. “Whether it’s due to a disaster, failed upgrade, hardware failure, data corruption, or virus activity, an average e-mail outage lasts longer than eight hours when recovery from tape backup is required.”

“This is not acceptable, 99.9 per cent uptime is not even possible if you rely solely on tape backup; we believe businesses should not have to endure any e-mail downtime,” Harsfai continued.

Ceryx will achieve 100 per cent uptime through a unique combination of technology, architecture and service. Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange is replicated in real-time between two fully-redundant Tier 4 data centres and includes their proprietary e-mail firewall protection.

One of the key differentiators of Ceryx’s Hosted Exchange service is Exchange Data Rewind™ (EDR). This technology enables rapid recovery from Exchange system failures that conventionally require hours of recovery effort and cause lost productivity during an outage. In the event of a system problem, EDR rewinds data to a point just prior to the outage allowing Ceryx administrators to inoculate the system against the outage and ensuring e-mail users have uninterrupted service.

TORONTO, Oct. 15, 2004 – We are pleased to announce that 800onemail has changed its name to Ceryx Inc. We made this change in an effort to build a brand that is more aligned with our values and aspirations. While the name has changed, all of the things our customers have told us are important to them will remain the same.

We started the re-branding process by talking to our customers and getting terrific feedback. They told us their impressions, what they liked, and what could be improved. They helped us build this new brand identity.

Why did we choose Ceryx? Renaming a company is no small challenge, and we spent a lot of time researching possible names that would reflect all of the qualities we felt were important and would also be as unique as we are in the world of e-mail service providers. Ceryx is actually Latin for herald, a person who delivers important messages. Ceryx also turned out to be a Greek god, and who like his father Hermes, was a messenger for the gods. Clearly the “Fates” had intervened.

Any good re-branding effort requires a logo that visually represents the business. Like our name, our new logo has a number of elements that represent our business. The first element you might notice is the icon in the middle of the logo which represents our people. Many of the things our customers value most about us are our people. If you cut the logo in half, the left and right side are perfect mirror images of each other; this speaks to the way we architect all of our solutions -fully redundant and replicated in at least two locations. When you view the image holistically you should see the infinity symbol, a symbol of our constant evolution towards our goal of systems that are always on, always available, always reliable.

We are excited about the changes. While the short term impact on you is fewer letters to type into a web address line, I can tell you there are going to be more exciting announcements soon that will have a positive impact on how we do business. As we evolve as a company, Ceryx will continue to lead by providing superior security, architecture, and customer service; but we will also lead with accelerated product development, enhanced services and our commitment to constant improvement. We want to continue to be a trusted herald.

TORONTO, Sept. 1, 2004 – Eventi is pleased to announce it has completed the merger of one of its investments, ThinOffice, with leading Canadian messaging services provider, 800onemail. Eventi has also made a subsequent investment in 800onemail, which provides innovative hosted e-mail messaging solutions including Exchange, e-mail firewall and business continuity. Eventi Inc. is a private equity investment company that provides capital, human resources and management consultancy to help existing businesses accelerate their growth.

Eventi invests in and partners with companies that are profitable, have a clear market opportunity and are poised to take advantage of technology-driven change. With a strong technology background, Eventi identified the messaging and Hosted Exchange industry as a growth opportunity and felt that 800onemail stood out as an end-to-end messaging services provider with a proven industry track record.

“In 800onemail, we found a company that was profitable and had a solid and loyal customer base, including blue chip, marquee clients. We also found a company that had more than 17 years experience in what many people feel is a nascent growth market,” said Bill Di Nardo, CEO of Eventi Inc. “We investigated a number of methods for getting into the Hosted Exchange industry, but the fact that they had extensive experience operating hosted systems put 800onemail well above the pack.”

Gus Harsfai, 800onemail’s founder and CEO had entertained other strategic alliances to help grow his company but Eventi’s offer was the most promising.

“Eventi brings more than just capital to the table. It brings a long-term, patient view to growth, as well as outstanding human capital,” said Harsfai. “The company’s principals have terrific experience in managing rapid growth, technology-based businesses and are well versed in the hosted messaging arena. Most importantly, we share similar corporate values and practices.”

The company that Eventi merged with 800onemail, ThinOffice, was an e-mail and messaging services provider.
