Exchange alternatives: Kerio MailServer, Zimbra Collaboration Suite and more profiled

Posted by Lawrence Bonk as News

Kerio Mailserver

Not everyone is keen on Exchange. We all know that. There are, however, more alternatives than ever before. You may remember, when Exchange 2007 dropped, it was kind of a haul to get it working. It was expensive, it required more harware than you’d think and it just made you jump through lots of hurdles. This opened the door for competition to dip their toes in the mailserver water. Do any of them stack up? Let’s take a look.

Generally speaking, Kerio MailServer and Zimbra Collaboration Suite receive the highest marks. They both offer a good combination of multi-platform interoperability, a good end-user experience and solid Outlook integration.

CommuniGate Pro has been praised for it’s VoIP integration and high performance. This is the go-to program for system managers wanted to come at things from a different angle.

Scalix Enterprise Edition has received fair marks, with several reviewers noting it’s lack of integrated management. Also, MailSite Fusion was knocked down a few pegs for it’s lack of a MAPI connector.

There you have it. My mother told me, you better shop around. So get to it.
