Exchange Hosting for February, 2007

- 1&1 to offer ground-breaking alternative to hosted MS Exchange

1&1 Internet, the world’s largest web host by known servers, today announced a strategic partnership with leading messaging and collaboration solutions provider Open-Xchange Inc. 1&1 will base its forthcoming range of hosted email and collaboration packages upon Open-Xchange Inc.’s award winning Smart Collaboration(tm) technology. The move is indicative of 1&1’s progression within the global ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) market. The company’s mass roll-out of Open-Xchange technology represents 1&1’s confidence in open-source alternatives, and its commitment to the open-source community.

1&1 will utilise the Open-Xchange platform for a range of 1&1 branded MailXchange email and collaboration packages to be launched worldwide. Available first in Germany as of today, and subsequently in US, France and UK, 1&1 MailXchange will within the first half of 2007 offer the full set of personal information management (”PIM”) functionality - email, calendaring, contacts and task management together with advanced groupware features such as Documail and Smart Document Sharing. The solutions will deliver valuable functionality for small businesses and individuals, enabling remote working and communication at very low price points. 1&1 MailXchange accounts will be available as a stand-alone package and as a bolt-on for existing hosting customers.

1&1’s use of an open-source platform will equip customers with the very latest features at a much lower price than comparable products. Open-Xchange provides high performance and reliability and offers 1&1 greater scalability than similar licensed solutions. The open-source nature of the solution facilitates seamless integration within 1&1’s back-end email systems. Moreover, Open-Xchange’s open standards and APIs (Application Programming Interface) enabled a seemless integration into 1&1’s business processes, such as user provisioning, systems management and billing processes.

Recent years have seen a significant increase in the popularity of open-source solutions for professional users. A high profile example is the City of Munich, Germany, which adopted open-source office solutions for its thousands of civil service workers. Products like 1&1 MailXchange have the ‘look and feel’ of similar mainstream licensed products and are easily adopted by all levels of user.

Andreas Gauger, Chairman of the Board, 1&1 Internet, said “Our partnership with Open-Xchange is an important and valuable milestone in our open-source journey. Open-source applications have always been of interest to us, but the Open-Xchange offering now shows that open-source has matured to the level where it offers an excellent mainstream email and collaboration product.”

For 1&1, the partnership comprises a further stride into the ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) market. Gauger added, “1&1 will continue to call upon open-source channels where it is clear that our customers could benefit from innovation and greatly reduced licensing costs”.

“This is an historic milestone for 1&1 as well as for Open-Xchange as hosted collaboration solutions will clearly be the pace makers for hosters on their way to application service providers”, said Frank Hoberg, CEO of Open-Xchange. “The benefits for small and medium sized customers are just too compelling. They benefit from easy to use, state of the art business software that really simplifies their businesses for unrivalled costs - without initial investment or ongoing administration efforts”.

1&1 has a long and distinguished past in contributing to open-source innovation. Since 1995, the company has invested in developing open-source technologies for web hosting. 1&1 was a supporting partner of the very successful NoSoftwarePatents campaign and continues to contribute to open-source projects that are driving the web solutions industry.

TORRANCE, Calif. and SAN JOSE, Calif., February 26, 2007 LiveOffice Corporation, the leading provider of managed messaging security, archiving and compliance solutions, and Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), a global leader in enterprise gateway security today announced an agreement to offer Secure Computing’s award-winning IronMail solution as a hosted service through LiveOffice’s Managed Messaging Services platform. This significantly expands access to Secure Computing’s enterprise-class messaging gateway security solution, making it available to companies that do not have the resources to manage messaging security on-site.

“Faced with the growing onslaught of email spam and related security issues, companies large and small are looking for the best security protection available in the market,” said Jay Chaudhry, vice chairman and chief strategy officer of Secure Computing. “With our partnership with LiveOffice, we are happy to be offering our enterprise class messaging security products to a broader cross-section of companies that typically would not consider a solution of our caliber. LiveOffice provides them the convenience of hosting the service as well as expertise in managing the solution.”

According to Secure Computing and the email traffic seen by TrustedSource.org, spam volume was as high as 90% of all email in December 2006. With businesses of all sizes receiving a constant barrage of potentially harmful inbound messaging threats, integrating Secure Computing IronMail within LiveOffice’s unified messaging environment provides companies with:

  • A powerful and cost effective method for controlling the daily influx of unwanted email messages
  • Rapid setup and deployment (often in under a week) with expertise from LiveOffice
  • Enterprise-class protection against messaging threats with no upfront investment in hardware, software or maintenance
  • Ongoing, U.S.-based customer support
  • Enterprise-class network reliability and security via LiveOffice’s multi-million dollar data center infrastructure

For no additional cost, service subscribers also receive access to LiveOffice’s proprietary Client Dashboard, a password-protected, web-based portal that helps businesses manage their own spam and virus filters. The interface also provides instant access to LiveOffice’s Threat Management Dashboard, where messaging threat levels can be monitored and the appropriate action determined. The portal’s flexibility means that organizations can tailor the Client Dashboard to meet the specific needs of their corporate structure and enjoy the following benefits:

  • Up-to-date information on email activity and potential threats
  • Real-time (Ajax-based) usage graphs showing email volumes and patterns that can be used to customize spam and virus filters
  • Information on intercepted messaging threats by day, week, month and year
  • Statistics that indicate email usage by individuals or according to domain name
  • Automated options for whitelisting and blacklisting

“This partnership creates many exciting opportunities for LiveOffice and Secure Computing,” said Matt Smith, president of LiveOffice. “Coupling Secure Computing’s technology and products with our hosting, management, and archiving capabilities gives users in all industries a comprehensive messaging security solution that is convenient to manage.”

The companies intend to launch the offering and announce pricing by April 1, 2007.

Start up Email hosting company now handling significant volumes of email.

Warrington Tuesday February 23rd 2007. Simply Mail Solutions has announced that the volume of emails passing through its servers is now exceeding 2.5 million per month - this equates to about 125GB per month of data traffic. The peak time is between 1100 and 1200 GMT with about 70,000 messages being handled per hour. Interestingly the minimum traffic is between 0300 and 0400 GMT but it is still running at 22,000 messages per hour.

Whilst this reflects the international nature of email it also is related to the fact that amongst the thousands of SMS users, significant numbers are outside the UK ? with (at mid February) the number of countries customers standing at 20 ? Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, and of course the UK. The second largest group of users (after the UK!) are from the USA.

Commented Colin Smith, Managing Director ?We are very pleased that our wide range of email hosting products and the innovative way we have implemented them has attracted such a diverse user base. The company is now well set on strong growth and with recent innovations such our Email Control Panel and our investment in Netapps technology for data security and unique features such as being able to use all our services across a domain we expect this growth to continue.?

Mobile Business Applications Assist in Improving Worker Productivity by Over 13%

DENVER, CO - February 21, 2007 – USA.NET (www.usa.net), a leading provider of Hosted Microsoft Exchange and mobility solutions for over six years, has further enhanced its reputation for consistently meeting the needs of today’s growing mobile workforce by earning the Microsoft Mobility Solutions Competency.

USA.NET earned this recognition with an ongoing commitment to enhancing two-way synchronized wireless access to Microsoft Exchange-based applications available through Windows Mobile® as well as BlackBerry® and Good™ Mobile Messaging Services.

By delivering a wide range of reliable and secure solutions that allow mobile workers to access email, attachments, calendar, contacts and tasks wherever they are with a wireless device, USA.NET helps restore productivity and responsiveness previously lost during travel and time spent away from the office. Changes made on wireless devices are reflected in the worker’s live mailbox in real-time, and can also be seen from a full desktop mail client such as Microsoft Outlook® 2003 or Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access®.

“Once again USA.NET has exhibited its expertise and impact in the Software-as-a-Service (S-a-a-S) industry by achieving the Microsoft Mobility competency,” said Ken Young, Chief Information Officer at HOK, a global architectural design firm. “USA.NET continually seeks and provides new, leading-edge ways to help us improve productivity and business processes.”

Mobile Workforce Continues to Grow, as Experts Find Mobility Yields 13.3 Percent Productivity Increase

According to Omni Consulting Group and Cisco’s study, “Affirming the Mobility Quotient,” mobile worker productivity is generating a 13.3 percent increase in TFP (total factor productivity) on a weekly basis. These findings clearly support the conclusion that employers gain five additional productive hours per week by simply adding mobility to their mix of communication tools and providing workers with Microsoft Outlook in their pocket.

According to international research and consulting firm Strategy Analytics, “Workers will average nearly 40 percent of their time away from the desk.” (“Mobile Business Application Outlook,” January 2006).

Industry analysts IDC project in their forecast “Worldwide Mobile Worker Population 2005-2009,” that there will be “more than 878 million mobile workers worldwide by 2009.” USA.NET confirmed the forecasted significant growth of mobile workers in 2006 by seeing a 286% increase for ActivSync® activations alone.

TORRANCE, Calif., February 13, 2007 A recent Osterman Research white paper entitled “The Impact of the New FRCP Amendments on Your Business” and co-sponsored by LiveOffice Managed Messaging Services finds that the newly adopted amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) will have a major impact on the way organizations manage electronic data, such as emails and instant messages. The amendments, which went into effect on December 1, 2006, require organizations that operate within the United States to manage their electronic data so that it can be produced in a timely and complete manner if necessary, such as during legal discovery proceedings.

“If an organization can have a civil lawsuit filed against it, then the FRCP should figure prominently in that organization’s data management strategy,” said Michael Osterman, founder and principal of Osterman Research. “Data retention is now a legal obligation that can carry with it serious consequences if managed poorly. We believe that the most logical method for storing emails and instant messages is an archiving system, such as the one offered by LiveOffice, which can satisfy all discovery requirements.”

The study found that traditional tape backup methods for storing electronic information may prove insufficient for a number of reasons, including:

  • Lack of indexing capabilities, which means that recovering information to satisfy a discovery order could prove time-consuming, burdensome to IT personnel and expensive
  • Corrupted backup tapes that are unreadable, making it impossible to recover previously stored data
  • Inability of backups to capture information created or deleted between scheduled backups

As an alternative to traditional tape backups, LiveOffice Managed Messaging Services is a fully automated archiving system that provides companies with a long-term and effective solution for capturing emails and instant messages. LiveOffice satisfies FRCP discovery requirements by enabling organizations of all sizes to:

  • Store and index emails, email attachments and instant messages in a single, highly searchable repository
  • Set pre-determined policies so that the archive is populated with pertinent messages that are automatically organized and categorized
  • Easily search and produce data in the event of a discovery request
  • Manage and optimize server storage space
  • Access messages using LiveOffice’s business continuity and disaster recovery features regardless of the status of the in-house mail server

Top line revenue grew by 48% to $7.744 million in the same period and 9.3% relative to top line proforma revenue of $7.09 million in the third quarter. The growth in Q4 over Q3 was due to strong organic growth in small and medium-sized business (SMB) bookings through ASP-One, MailStreet and SharePointSite as well as the solid growth and the first full quarter of revenue for Mi8 since the acquisition. Mi8’s financial results were consolidated into the Apptix financial statements beginning September 6, 2006.

EBITDA increased to $0.215 million from a third quarter loss of $0.70 million. Net loss decreased 49% in Q4 to a loss of $0.794 million compared to a loss of $1.57 million in Q3. Operating expenses increased to $6.5 million in Q4 compared to $5.10 million in Q3; however, the increase in operating expenses was due largely to the consolidation of Mi8 for a full quarter in the financial results.
