New UserPilot tool makes user management and unified log-in simple with Active Directory synchronization

New York, NY (January 27, 2009) - Intermedia, the leading software as a service (SaaS) provider specializing in messaging and collaboration solutions, today announced the availability of UserPilot, a tool that allows users of Intermedia’s hosted applications to better integrate with their on-premise applications. With more and more companies leveraging a mix of hosted and in-house software applications, user administration has become increasingly time consuming and complex for IT administrators - a problem that UserPilot aims to solve. UserPilot also equips end-users with unified log-in capabilities, making it easier and less time-consuming for users to access multiple applications.

UserPilot allows Intermedia customers to leverage their existing on-premise Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure to simplify user management across on-premise and Intermedia-hosted applications including hosted Exchange, hosted SharePoint and hosted Office Communications Server 2007. Using UserPilot customers can securely synchronize user log-in credentials to enable a single username and password combination for individual users across on-premise and hosted applications. If a user changes or an administrator resets a password through Active Directory, the change will sync with Intermedia automatically so the user can log in to Intermedia services using the new password.

“Many companies are now finding that it makes the most business sense to leverage packaged software for some applications and hosted software for others. Unfortunately for IT administrators, this makes user management and application integration a far bigger challenge than in the past,” said Jonathan McCormick, Chief Operating Officer for Intermedia. “Intermedia recognizes this pain among IT administrators and believes that UserPilot will be a big first step into the integration of hosted and on-premise applications — which is where the future of software deployment is headed.”

“Intermedia gets it. We already using Active Directory to manage our users across all our applications,” said Derek Christensen, Director of Information Systems for Juice Harvest Corporation, an Intermedia customer. “It makes sense that we should be able to manage our Intermedia users from the same Active Directory portal, and UserPilot lets us do that.”

As SaaS becomes mission critical to businesses, richer integration and management services are necessary to eliminate inefficiencies in user management. With UserPilot, the maintenance of a SaaS-based email solution is effortless because hosted services are seamlessly integrated with existing on-premise software and user management applications.

Many other SaaS providers require that customers create and maintain user databases that are unique to their services but do not integrate with customers’ existing user management systems. This results in inefficiencies for IT staff as they must manage multiple directories and log-in credentials, and deal with limitations on data integration across the firewall between hosted SaaS services and on-premise software. Since UserPilot keeps on-premise login credentials synchronized across Intermedia-hosted applications, time-consuming password and new user updates are eliminated for Active Directory users.

UserPilot integrates seamlessly with Intermedia’s other hosted Microsoft Exchange offerings to allow for quick and easy installation. And because no business can afford to compromise the security of the information within their Active Directory, UserPilot was built with world-class SSL encryption and mutual authentication to provide total protection and provider validation for complete data integrity and security.

UserPilot is part of Intermedia’s larger vision of creating a software continuum from on-premise to hosted, breaking down the barriers separating software as a service from on-premise applications. After an extended beta period, UserPilot is now available to all of Intermedia’s direct customers and through its channel partners.

Fully customizable CRM solution extends company’s collaboration portfolio

New York, NY (January 20, 2009) - Intermedia, the leading software as a service (SaaS) provider specializing in messaging and collaboration solutions, has announced that it is now offering Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 as a hosted service through its private label channel partners. This offering extends Intermedia’s reach within the productivity and collaboration space, offering an easily deployable and customizable customer relationship management (CRM) solution to its existing hosted Exchange email and collaboration, SharePoint collaboration platform and Office Communications Server instant messaging and presence services.

Unlike other one-size-fits-all hosted CRM offerings, Intermedia’s hosted Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is customizable to the specific needs of the individual end customer. This level of customization is possible because each CRM customer is guaranteed its own virtual dedicated server. Other vendors rely on shared server infrastructure and a basic control panel which limit their ability to meet every customer’s specific needs. With Intermedia’s new offering, customers gain a clear competitive edge because they are able to narrow sales leads, tactics, and sales and marketing campaigns to their unique core competencies and market demands. Intermedia’s channel partners gain an enhanced revenue stream from the opportunity to fine-tune and tailor the CRM solution to the needs of each customer.

“Intermedia’s hosted Dynamics CRM 4.0 enables us to add a high-margin recurring revenue stream offering into our product mix that tightly integrates into our existing hosted Exchange offerings,” said Joseph Kowalenko, President of a mid-sized Chicago-based managed services provider, and a Intermedia channel partner. “The flexibility of their service enables us to customize solutions for our customers, making us much more relevant to them than standard off-the-shelf software.”

Company’s Unprecedented Quarter Validates Economic Resiliency of SaaS Business Model

TORRANCE, Calif., January 14, 2009 — LiveOffice, the leading provider of software-as-a-service(SaaS) email archiving solutions, today announced record new sales growth in the fourth quarter of 2008, which reflects 148-percent growth from the fourth quarter of 2007. The company attributes the dramatic growth in sales to customers’ increasing interest in less-costly SaaS solutions during tougher economic times. In addition, in spite of their financial challenges, many organizations feel a heightened obligation to address regulatory and legal requirements surrounding the proper handling of electronic communications.

According to the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), a leading industry analyst firm, currently eight out of 10 electronic discovery events involve email and attachments. However, recent financial scandals point to an inevitable increase in companies’ e-discovery and compliance needs. “Today the decision isn’t whether or not to archive email, but instead how best to implement a solution,” said Brian Babineau, senior analyst with ESG. “In light of the current economy, an increasing number of companies are turning to SaaS solutions to help them reduce upfront capital expenditures on in-house hardware and software deployments, while also lessening the system management burden placed on overworked IT resources.”

LiveOffice offers companies the benefits of tried-and-true SaaS archiving and hosted email solutions with just the right amount of customization and control. Washington Federal, a Washington state-based savings and loan institution, is among the organizations that have come to believe in the SaaS delivery model. Notes Washington Federal’s Senior Vice President, Terry Permenter, “We were extremely impressed with the account team and level of service LiveOffice presented to us. Our evaluation criteria were highly complex, but LiveOffice was able to put a checkmark next to every requirement we had. I’m now convinced that SaaS is the industry model for infrastructure and many applications going forward. I can’t imagine why any internal IT department needs to run email anymore.”

In 2008, LiveOffice maintained its strong foothold in the financial services industry while also successfully expanding its reach outside of the sector with the introduction of Mail Archive, a SaaS email archiving solution designed to meet mailbox management and e-discovery needs. “Our expansion into new industries is a powerful testament to the trust our clients have put in us and the value our solutions provide to them,” said LiveOffice CEO, Nick Mehta. “We now proudly manage email-related services for an impressive roster of clients in a range of verticals, from healthcare, education and government to hospitality and retail.”

2009 to See More Malware, Especially on Virtualization Platforms and Mobile Devices; Social Networks Also to be Increasingly Exploited

GULF BREEZE, FL—January 14, 2009—AppRiver LLC, a leading provider of secure e-mail messaging solutions, today announced the publication of its year-end spam report, State of Security 2008, and the Threat and Spamscape Forecast for 2009. The reports highlight spam and security trends as seen in 2008, as well as key predictions for 2009.

According to report author, AppRiver Senior Security Analyst Fred Touchette, 2008 threats focused on duping unaware and uninformed e-mail and Internet users. The most common incidents involved exploitation of either current events, such as phishing schemes attached to oil prices, or malware misrepresenting well-known entities such as McDonald’s or

Phishing was one of the most frequently used attack methods this past year. The 2008 report breaks down last year’s phishing attacks into categories, which include a few of the following campaigns:

• Claim to be a subpoena from a governmental body like the U.S. Tax Court or the IRS that would eventually turn out to be keylogging schemes to steal information,
• Pose as a Google AdWord account update designed to illegally obtain account data, and
• Use the classic bank ploy of targeting customers of notable organizations like BanCorp and Wells Fargo.

In 2009, Touchette believes that the trend of Web-based malware will continue to increase, and that there will be more malware devised to attack virtualization platforms such as Windows Virtual PC and VMWare. Mobile malware is also expected to grow because of the Apple iPhone’s rising popularity and Google Android’s open source platform. Finally, it is likely that attacks on job search and social networking sites, such as LinkedIn and Monster, will continue to rise as job hunters search for employment on the Internet.

Simply Mail Solutions upgrades to MS Exchange 2007

Warrington, UK, Monday January 12th 2009. Simply Mail Solutions, leading email hosting company, has announced that it is upgrading from MS Exchange Server 2003 to MS Exchange Server 2007.

Commented Keith Pritchard (Technical Director) ?For us, it was a logical step to go as the technical changes for MS Exchange 2007 are considerable. Following our mission we need to keep up with the latest technology and so we decided to switch our servers to MS Exchange 2007. This also ensures that our customers can profit from all services and features that MS Exchange 2007 mailboxes have to offer. We have put a major amount of effort into making the change over as smooth and trouble free as possible and not rushed this upgrade onto the market.?

Changes in Outlook 2007 might not be considerable but customers can now benefit from an extremely improved web interface when they are on the go. Regional settings can be adjusted easily and customers that were annoyed by a poor out-of-office agent will be delighted to see the improved version. In addition, Windows Mobile 6 can now use html when connected to a MS Exchange 2007 mailbox which is part of SMS? product range. SMS? SharePoint customers will also gain from the new version as their users on the move can access documents on the shared server via the web interface of MS Exchange 2007.

Users also get extra control of their Windows Mobile devices and for example can cancel the use of a mobile if it is stolen or goes missing therefore reducing the risk of unauthorised access to their network and data.

New users are immediately installed on the Exchange 2007 platform whilst existing users will be migrated in due course. Because SMS uses Virtual Server technology it does not have a major issue with implementing and reconfiguring server hardware for this upgrade and can respond flexibly as users migrate. Capacity released by the migration can easily and transparently be redeployed.
